This course is intended for students who are already writing short fiction in English in any genre and wish to improve upon their skills with targeted feedback. While there will be instruction and assigned writing exercises, the focus will be on sharing students' completed works with the rest of the group. Each work will receive moderated attention from peers, as well as the teacher, who is a widely published short fiction author.

Through practical demonstrations and exercises, you will learn how to quickly sketch using watercolour and pencil, how to plan an image, how to apply various drawing and watercolour techniques, and how to incorporate collage and stencil elements to your work. We focus on developing your own unique approach to creating mixed media images on paper.

This course introduces you to different aspects of creative writing: character, setting, dialogue, genre, point-of-view, poetry and more – fun and playful exercises to encourage the inner writer to fly. We’ll work inside the classroom and outside in nature. We’ll write, review, read out, share, listen and watch. Each week we'll try something new, something a little bit different: strong verbs, fanciful conversations, unexpected delights.

This course is for beginners as well as those who wish to improve their drawing skills and refine their understanding of visual language. Using pencils and charcoal, we will explore fundamental techniques such as proportion, shape, perspective, line weights, shading, and value. Students will develop drawing skills and become confident using the tools of visual expression. Needed: PC/laptop/tablet with microphone and camera, good internet connection, current browser version. You will receive the access data by e-mail in good time before the course begins.

Our back plays a crucial role in the stability of our body and spine. Pain is often caused by poor posture, one-sided movements, and lack of exercise. In order to prevent this, the muscles that strengthen the back and improve posture are specifically targeted in the class. These exercises are complemented by mobilization and coordination exercises. The course concludes with an extensive stretching session. This course takes place online using Zoom. An email with the access data will be automatically sent one day before the respective course day at around 6:00 a.m.

Our main focus is "The Camera". During this course you will become familiar with all your camera's most important functions and how to use them. You will also gain the technical know-how to start making the most of your digital SLR and develop a creative approach to photography as well as learning how to set the menu correctly to get the best technical results. We will go on location to shoot our pictures then evaluate them later in class.

Do you already have experience in drawing? Now it's time to improve and further develop your knowledge and skills. We will emphasize drawing the human figure - anatomy, body mechanics, dynamic poses, portraiture, facial expressions, psychology, and emotions. We will work again on the basics of drawing, but will add texturing, materiality, and lighting. We will pay close attention to how to create focal points in our pictures, as well as to colour theory and the contribution of colours to visual language.

Have you always dreamed of painting and creating your own art? Realise your vision and start painting now! In this course you will learn or revise fundamental techniques and, with guidance, transfer your ideas to paper. The result will be as varied as its creators. Acrylic paints are most suitable for this course, however, if you would prefer to work with other materials, please feel free to bring them along.

Bavarian dishes are hearty soul food, turning very simple regional ingredients into tasty, satisfying culinary experiences. We are going to prepare some simple varieties of bread and potato dumplings, some Spätzle - serving it as Käsespätzle (Bavarian Mac & Cheese), and an original Krustenbraten (roasted pork and crackling) from Bavarian pork. For other side dishes we will make some healthy Krautsalat (slaw) and of course Kartoffelsalat (potato salad). To finish off we will make Apfel- and Topfenstrudel. Please bring: apron and small storage containers.

Targeted stretching of certain muscle and fascia groups can prevent muscle tension and make our tissue more flexible. However, the success of the exercises is linked to correct execution. In this course, you will learn anatomically correct muscle stretches according to the latest findings. Stretched muscles are more elastic, less prone to injury, more resilient and recover more quickly. Various relaxation sequences can also be used.

You will learn how to write and read Hangul, the Korean alphabet. Additionally, you will acquire the ability to speak and form simple sentences in Korean, while also gaining knowledge about basic grammar and sentence structure. This course will be taught in English. You need at least B2 in English to take part.

In this interactive session, we will explore various quirks of German culture that often cause misunderstandings for people from abroad. Additionally, the workshop will equip you with tools to enhance your intercultural competence, empowering you to more effectively navigate social and professional environments. Through a combination of theoretical insights, practical exercises, and discussions, you can reflect on your personal experiences.

This workshop involves meeting on a Friday evening (online) in order to write deeply, freely, and personally, then gathering (one week later) on Saturday with the fullness of our bodies and voices to learn how to bring those words to life. Together we will then design a Live Reading with subtle performative and atmospheric elements to make for a whole and wondrous experience for an audience on Sunday. 

In this workshop we will concentrate on the art of ring making. You will experience and practise the basic and essential techniques of the goldsmith such as sawing, filing and soldering. We will mainly work with silver and semi-precious stones. Participants who want to work with gold should bring their own materials (including the soldering material). You are welcome to bring your own silver; however, it will be possible to buy silver and stones directly in the workshop.

We will look at basic methods of character design as well as proportion, shape, perspective, deformation, body language, expressions, mimics, anatomy and texturing. You will use your skills and imagination to create your own characters: heroes, beauties, cuties, monsters, animals, aliens, machinery – let your imagination run wild.

Visibly, today’s Germany has been shaped by the past – and it is almost certain that everyone has heard of some German historical figures and events. This course will cover the key periods, protagonists and turning points of German history from its medieval beginnings to the present. You’ll be guided through the main traits of the political, economic, social and cultural development. This is the place where your basic questions about German history will be answered. "Understanding Germany" will be continued with a look at the current political system (2) and the socio-cultural situation (3).

Through a series of in-class exercises and projects, you will learn to take risks, embrace serendipity, be innovative, work collaboratively, and to employ a range of conventional and non-conventional drawing mediums and tools. Are you curious to understand more about how to draw faces? The human body and the human face all have their own symmetry. Learn how to visually analyze the proportions and how to apply them in your drawings. Based on ideas in Betty Edwards’ book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain", you will discover drawing techniques which trick the brain into seeing better. These techniques can help improve realistic drawing skills, as well as improve one’s understanding of perspective. Even beginners can use this method to achieve surprising results.

What is understood under the term risk management and how is it implemented by employees and/or project leaders? Through input and practical exercises you will learn how to identify, evaluate and monitor potential risk, and to depict it in cost management. You will also learn how to create a risk plan. This seminar is in alignment with international standards of project management (PMI). It is part of the Project Management Course of Lectures which completes the examination for certification as Project Manager (T440565) but can also be visited as a standalone course. Requirement: Basic knowledge in project management.

Anna Halprin (1920--2021) is considered a revolutionary force in dance. A pioneer in the use of arts for personal development, she created Tamalpa Life/Art Process and Movement Ritual. Halprin views dance as a social experience and metaphor for moving through life. Here you will get a taste of her search to "[unite] personal and artistic growth, life and art, with one aspect continuously feeding off the other and coming together in new ways." We will explore the communicative potential in everyday gestures and create a simple group choreography.

Which photographers have inscribed themselves in our pictorial memory? What is the difference between a snapshot and a work of art? Does this difference even exist anymore? Do you feel like developing your visual skills and learning to express what you see? Photographer Daniel Mayer will present various photographic positions. These works will be discussed and analyzed together. Conversation about current and historical images and training of perception will be the focus.

Meditation means becoming familiar with one's own mind. Through mindful and friendly attention to our body sensations as well as to our breath and subsequently also to our thoughts and feelings, we succeed in taking a step back. There is more "space" inside. As a result, we are no longer able to follow our impulses "blindly", but to better control our thoughts, feelings and actions. Therefore, we again become "captains" of our own ship instead of letting ourselves be swept away by the waves of life.

Taijiquan and Qigong are traditional Chinese internal arts to harmonise and strengthen body, mind and spirit. Regular practice can bring better health, increased energy levels and a greater ability to deal with stress and pressure. The movements are energetic, elegant and subtle. With the right amount of patience, Taijiquan and Qigong are easy to learn and practice.

With continuously increasing demand we are performing research to make air travel safer and more reliable. A researcher at the Institute of Flight System Dynamics will show some aspects of the research currently being done using the flight simulator. There will be an opportunity for participants to sit inside the simulator and to test their aircraft piloting skills.

Traditional Indian cuisine is often very complex. There is usually little time for it in everyday work and family life. In this course we will look at fast and simple Indian dishes which can be on the table in just a few minutes. We will cook a quick chicken tikka masala, an eggplant masala curry, spicy potatoes with fresh coriander and cumin, and a mung bean and lentil soup with Indian basmati rice. All dishes are very healthy, nutritious and gluten free. We will enjoy the dishes together with a saffron-mango lassi. Please bring: apron and small storage containers.

Acting - The Fast Route

The stone was and still is an essential part of the jewel. In this workshop we will concentrate on a few classical stone setting techniques such as the cabochon setting and prong setting. You will learn these classical techniques to develop and create your own design. We will mainly work with silver and semi-precious stones. Participants who want to work with gold should bring their own materials (including the soldering material). You are welcome to bring with you your own silver and stones; however, it will be possible to buy silver and a variety of semi-precious stones directly in the workshop.

In a demanding and stressful environment it is important to activate the ability to connect with inner resources in order to find more balance and a life with less anxiety and greater peace of mind. In this seminar you will learn more about the connection of body and mind, thoughts, feelings and resulting action. The methods applied are meditation, mindful and easy body exercises and awareness in daily life.
